Casita Improvements 2017

Casita Improvements at Tsegyalgar West

We have been working to improve casitas this year. ..
Still much to do, however eight casitas are repainted, six have
new flush toilets and 'sunny side' windows now have shades!
We are planning to add two small kitchenettes for
long term retreat guests.

Still needed are: more hot showers, patio floor tiles and furniture,
low voltage fans, lamps and outside down light fixtures.
In addition the solar system is not adequate for all needed,
additional batteries, inverter and panels in the Gonpa/Kitchen
area would be a welcome improvement.
Please donate to these projects and help the TW grow!

Gompa Painting and Improvements!

Gompa Painting Project
Tsegyalgar West, Baja Ca Sur, Mexico

Update on Painting and Decoration of the Gar’s Gompa
March 21 - April 28, 2017

The painting project for the Gompa at Tsegyalgar West, is moving forward and our Gakyil wants to thank all that are participating in this wonderful project.

The first week of work was dedicated to the hard job of smoothing and cleaning the wooden structure of the Gompa, and providing the scaffolding and working materials needed to prepare the Gompa for the painting. Finally, in the second week, Migmar Tsering, Yushan Zhong and the first group of seven volunteers arrived to start painting.

Migmar designed the the
Gompa ceiling, deciding on a combination of Tibetan decorations integrating with colors and motifs from the Mexican culture. The dense blue sky of the roof combined with the colors of Mexico seem a perfect combination for the place and the time.

The group of volunteers are working hard, and astonished to find themselves in an incredible place and with such an interesting project.  And what an incredible opportunity to work with Migmar and Yushang, always kind, and open to share their knowledge and experience in this extraordinary,  unique project.

Daily activities include a class of yoga and in the evening Vajra dance, followed by Khaitas at 8:30 pm. People listen to recordings of the Teachings, in the morning while painting.  During the day,  volunteers share their preferred music, both Western and Tibetan, while working.

People who like are also dedicating some time in the vegetable garden of the Gar and helping in the kitchen. We had a class from Yushan on cooking from Sichuan Province, we learned to prepare different Mexican chili sauce and Migmar will teach how to prepare Tibetan Momos.

More volunteers are expected and some are changing during the next weeks. There is still the possibility to participate for anyone interested to come by contacting Tsegyalgar West Gakyil at
2000.giorgio@gmail.com

Other good news is that we have already received donations to cover about 50% of the project costs and we want to thank very much all the Donors that made this possible in so short a time.

Summer at Tsegyalgar West

Tamarindo
Ripe Mangos
Summer at Tsegyalgar West, Baja California Sur, Mexico

July 2016

Dear Vajra brothers and sisters,

We know you’d like to visit Tsegyalgar West at some point in your life for a retreat.    If you have the chance during the year ahead and would like to do some physical work, you are most welcome to come to our Karma Yoga retreats here at the Gar.   We will be doing several projects in the next month and have our main work period start from October at the end of the rainy season through April of next year.

If you come now, you need to be in good condition to work in a more relaxed way in the heat.  From October on, the temperatures start to go down and the environment is much more temperate and green in this most popular time of year.

Work planned is for ordinary and special maintenance to the main infrastructure (water system, Gompa, kitchen, casitas, fencing, trails, gardens, etc).  If you have some expertise you are extremely welcome, if not, this is your chance also to develop some manual skills!

Lodging is offered by the Gar. You will be given a safety orientation. There is time each day to practice and enjoy the spectacular beauty and profound blessings of this retreat center in the natural tropical desert wilderness.

If you cannot join us in person to participate because: (1) Physically you cannot do physical work (2) You simply prefer to do other kind of activities, but you would like to participate in some way, please help with a donation to cover some of these expenses. Current work projects for June-August being done include:

-       water proofing of 20 casitas; $180 usd for each casitas, 6 are now completed.
-       repair the fencing of the main area of the Gar; $120 usd to make a piece of new fence close to the Gonpa, $600 usd for the material to repair the existing fencing of the main area
-       rehabilitation the area of the water spring (the Mango trees area) ; $600 usd to make a new metallic cover to the water spring,  $120 usd for changing the old pipes of the water spring
-       preparation of road and trails for the raining season.   $250 usd for tools and material for basic maintenance
-       gardening and landscaping .  $200 usd for buying plants and trees to plant around the Gompa and maintain the garden area
-       Cooking and practice
-       Summer repairs total funding needed: $4,400

These are our summer projects on the land and we invite your generosity and request support now, before we start our upcoming retreat program,  and a fabulous ‘Adopt A Casita’ project ahead for creating retreat opportunities and upgrading our casitas this coming season!

Please do go to our website at www.tsegyalgarwest.org and use the link to donate any amount directly by paypal or credit card. The Wisdom of Compassion: TW Nature Reserve Capitol Campaign

The Wisdom of Compassion:
TW Nature Reserve Capitol Campaign

TSW is in crisis and needs to get the basics running for self-sustenance, mainly Solar BATTERIES and HOT WATER. There are other things it's important for people to know - we need everyones help to repair and renovate the VERY BASICS for this next season.

The Tsegylagar West, Los Naranjos retreat center in Baja Ca Sur needs your support to complete repairs and renovate its infrastructure from last year's damage from Hurricane Odile. We have made progress with a new roof structure for the meeting hall, but still need support to replace solar batteries, hot water heaters in casitas, etc. This funding is very important to keep the beautiful and peaceful center maintained for renting to groups, as that is an important source of income to maintain it well.
Please give to the Capitol Campaign and we will give back in a program to acknowledgement of your gift! Please join us in collaboration by donating.
Who We Are
The Tsegyalgar West 'Los Naranjos" Buddhist retreat center is located in Baja California Sur. It is a Nature Reserve of 3,000 acres of diverse landscape, both desert and lush tropics. It has an intricate mysterious terrain and fresh springs, within the majestic Sierra Laguna mountain range.  It is located north of San Jose del Cabo in Baja Ca Sur, Mexico. We have been offering various programs to the
community for over ten years.

There are 16 casitas to enjoy for stays, which offer an extraordinary natural environment to immerse in, and to relax and discover our relationship with natural well being. Pristine wilderness areas are quickly becoming more rare and precious in our modern age. It is our mission to preserve this land for the benefit of all. Please come to visit!

Eco-stays can include meditation and contemplation practice, yoga and massage, hiking and natural spring arroyos, permaculture and gardens, ongoing seminars and programs available, as well as group retreats and eco-tourist interests.

What We Need
Funding for Infrastructure Repair & Renovation
Your support goes directly to the following projects. Our Goal of $54,000 covers installation of these priority projects by the board of directors:

Utility Area & Bathrooms : $10 ,000  - Construct vented utility storage behind kitchen to protect utilities from wind and weather. Eco friendly bathrooms added to the common area.
Hurricane preparation: $6,000- Shutters on windows and casita doors, various repairs, road maintenance and drainage
Upgrade Communications: $6,000- (a matching grant available from a donor!) Add antenna for internet and phone reception. Needed for better communications in this isolated spot.
Hot water heaters $9,000 - Old solar rooftop heaters destroyed in hurricane. New system will be protected in a side enclosure.
Furnishings: $5,500- New beds for dorm. Bedding/cabinets/curtains
Kitchen hot water/separate sink: $ 1,500- So cooking and cleanup can happen at the same time.

Cattle Grates and level parking area: $5,000 To keep the cows from getting into the gardens and causing soil erosion. Level parking space.
Total Capitol Campaign Goal: $54,000

Your Impact
Your donation helps provide hot water for showers, solar electricity, improved communications and will generate stability and basic comforts for this place of refuge. Your donation will go a long way and also will be an investment for the future generations who will come to rediscover themselves in a peaceful and supportive atmosphere.

We care happy to provide a tax donation letter for USA tax deductions. We are currently working on non-profit status in Mexico, which should come through by 2016. Please give to the Capitol Campaign and we will give back in a tiered gift certificate program in acknowledgement of your generosity!

Saga Dawa!

June 2nd, is the full moon day of the sacred month of Saga Dawa, the fourth month of the Tibetan lunar calendar. This is the most sacred day of the year in Tibetan Buddhism, commemorating the birth, enlightenment and parinirvana (death) of the Buddha, and it is believed that all positive and negative actions are multiplied by 100 million as a result.

Traditionally, the holy day and month of Saga Dawa Düchen is observed through practice, generosity, and the performance of meritorious deeds. Sojin, the practice of Life Release, is commonly performed by purchasing animals that are destined to be killed (like worms, crickets, or fish), and releasing them into their natural habitats with prayers and positive aspirations. The act of giving life in this way is believed to extend the practitioner or benefactor's lifespan and create positive circumstances.  Another excellent way to make an offering of life on this special day is to observe a vegetarian diet, a common tradition during the month of Saga Dawa. You can also take an extended vow, creating vast merit through your noble aspiration to reduce suffering.

We would also like to ask that you please remember Nepal on this Saga Dawa Düchen. Although much of the media buzz has settled down, the people of Nepal are still in desperate need of aid in the aftermath of the severe earthquakes experienced over the past couple of months, which claimed more than 8,000 lives and left countless others injured and without food or shelter. If you are able to, please consider making a donation to one of the many reputable organizations tirelessly offering relief on the ground in Nepal, helping to rebuild this sacred region after so much destruction and heartache. A few such organizations are Matthieu Ricard's Karuna Shechen, and Doctors Without Borders. A.S.I.A foundation: http://www.adoptibet.org/wp/en/who-we-are/  and
